How to Use the Dalux Integration in Vrex

Linking Dalux models to a Vrex project

Vrex is a virtual reality (VR) collaboration solution for BIM that integrates with Dalux, so the models you already manage in Dalux can be reviewed together in full VR. Once the Dalux integration is set up in Vrex, you can link Dalux models in Vrex and bring them straight into your project for review and collaboration. This guide walks through how to link Dalux models in Vrex, from signing in to selecting the exact models you want to connect.

Why use Vrex VR with Dalux?

Dalux is a common data environment (CDE) where project models, issues and documents live. Vrex adds a dedicated virtual reality layer on top of that data: instead of viewing models on a flat screen, the whole team can step inside them at 1:1 scale. Vrex is built for the heavy lifting that immersive review demands — high-fidelity rendering of large, detailed BIM models, point cloud support, and real-time multi-user collaboration where everyone meets in the same virtual model regardless of location.

This is different from the lightweight visualization built into many BIM tools. Mobile augmented reality and 360-degree photo walkthroughs are great for quick, on-the-go checks, but they are not designed for fully immersive, room-scale VR review of complex models. By pairing Dalux as the data source with Vrex as the VR collaboration platform, teams get the best of both: Dalux keeps the single source of truth, and Vrex turns it into a high-fidelity, collaborative VR experience used on demanding construction and infrastructure projects.

    Before you begin

This article assumes the Dalux integration has already been enabled for your account. If it has not, follow the setup guide first to obtain your API key and Base URL and switch the integration on. You will also need a Vrex account and access to the Dalux project that holds the models you want to link.

Step 1 – Sign in to Vrex

Open the Vrex web app and sign in. Enter the email address tied to your Vrex account, click Next, and complete the sign-in. Once you are signed in, you land on the Projects page, where all the projects you have access to are listed.

Step 2 – Open or create a project

Select the project you want to work in from the Projects list. If you need a new one, click Create Project, choose the relevant organization, give the project a name, and click Create. Open the project to reach its workspace, then select Models in the left-hand menu.

    Step 3 – Add a model source

In the Models view, click Add model source. Vrex then asks you to choose the source to get models from, listing every supported option such as direct uploads, Aconex, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Catenda Hub, StreamBIM, Navisworks, and more.

Step 4 – Choose Dalux as the source

Find Dalux in the list of sources and select it. Dalux supports a wide range of formats, including IFC, NWD, NWC, RVT, DWG (Civil 3D), JT, and E57, so most BIM deliverables can be pulled through without conversion. Because the integration is already connected, Vrex uses your stored credentials to reach the Dalux project automatically.

Vrex now shows the Dalux folder structure so you can select the models you want to link. Browse the folders, tick the individual files you need, and use Select all or Deselect all to manage the selection quickly. When the right models are checked, click OK to link them. The selected Dalux models are now connected to your Vrex project and ready for review and collaboration.

Keeping your linked models up to date

Because the models stay linked to their source, updates made in Dalux can be pulled back into Vrex without repeating the whole setup. Return to the Models view whenever you need to add more models, refresh existing ones, or remove a source you no longer use.
